The Heart of the Church Pt. 3

“Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Devotional Thought:
Jesus completely redefined greatness. In the world’s system, greatness is measured by status, recognition, power, or position. But in God’s kingdom, greatness is measured by humility and service. Jesus did not just teach this principle. He lived it. The One with all authority chose to serve others and ultimately gave His life as a ransom for many.

These Scriptures challenge us to examine our motives. Are we chasing influence so we can be seen, or are we willing to serve even when no one notices? Jesus shows us that true leadership is not about being above others. It is about being willing to pour into others. Serving is not a lesser calling. It is the way of Jesus Christ.

When we follow Jesus, we are called to lay down pride, selfish ambition, and the need for applause. Real greatness is found in reflecting the heart of a Savior who served sacrificially.

Practical Application

• Look for opportunities to serve without needing recognition.
• Ask God to reveal any pride or selfish ambition in your heart.
• Choose humility in your relationships, even when you could assert yourself.
• Follow Jesus’ example by using your influence to lift others up.

Father, thank You for showing me what true greatness looks like. Help me to walk in humility and serve others with the heart of Jesus. Remove pride, selfish ambition, and the desire to be seen. Teach me to reflect Your love through a life of service. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
