Devotional Reading: Hebrews 11:23-29 NIV
Devotional Reading
"By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict....Verse 29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned."
The story of Moses is one of courage, conviction, and costly obedience. From birth, his life was marked by faith; first the faith of his parents, who defied Pharaoh’s orders, and then his own, as he chose purpose over privilege. Moses had access to power, luxury, and influence in Egypt, but he willingly traded it all to identify with God’s people.
Hebrews 11 tells us Moses “regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt.” (See verse 26). That phrase is powerful. True faith doesn’t just believe in God, it values Him above everything else. Moses didn’t make the easy choice; he made the eternal one. He understood that faith sometimes means walking away from comfort, reputation, or control, trusting that God’s reward is far greater than anything this world can offer.
Later, by faith, he faced Pharaoh without fear, obeyed God’s instructions in the Passover, and led the Israelites through the Red Sea. Moses’ faith was not theoretical; it was tested, visible, and active. And every act of obedience became part of a greater story of deliverance.
Practical Application
Trust God’s purpose over earthly comfort:
Ask yourself, “Am I choosing what’s easy, or what’s eternal?”
Stand firm when obedience costs you something:
Sometimes faith looks like walking away from opportunities that compromise your values.
Lead with faith, not fear:
Your courage to trust God can inspire others, just as Moses’ faith delivered an entire nation.

Devotional Prayer
Father, I thank You for the example of Moses, who chose faith over comfort and courage over compromise. Strengthen my heart to follow You boldly, even when it costs me something. Help me to keep my eyes on You, to value Your will above worldly reward, and to walk in obedience that inspires faith in others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
