Devotional Reading: John 16:7 (AMP)
Devotional Reading
“However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you…”
Devotional Thought:
Jesus told His disciples that His leaving would actually be for their good. That must have sounded confusing in the moment. How could losing His physical presence be better? Because Jesus was making room for the Holy Spirit to come; not just to walk beside them, but to live within them.
The Amplified Bible gives us a fuller picture of who the Holy Spirit is. He is our Comforter when life feels heavy. He brings peace to hearts that are tired, anxious, or grieving.
He is our Advocate when we feel weak, accused, or unsure. He stands with us and reminds us that we do not face life alone.
He is our Counselor when we need wisdom, direction, and truth. He helps us know what to do and how to respond.
He is our Standby when we have reached the end of ourselves. He is present, ready, and available with the help we need at the right moment.
Jesus was showing His disciples, and us, that the Holy Spirit is not a distant force. He is God’s personal presence in our lives. Whatever season you are in, the Holy Spirit is exactly what you need.

Practical Application
- When you feel overwhelmed, pause and ask the Holy Spirit to comfort you.
- When you face a hard decision, invite Him to counsel and guide you.
- When you feel alone or unsupported, remember He is your Advocate and Standby.
- Start your day by saying, “Holy Spirit, help me today in every way I need.”
Devotional Prayer
Holy Spirit, thank You for being my Comforter, Advocate, Counselor, and Standby. Thank You for being present in every part of my life. Comfort me when I feel heavy, guide me when I need wisdom, stand with me when I feel weak, and help me trust that I am never alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
