Joy to the World Pt 2

Devotional Reading: Luke 1:26-38 NIV

Devotional Reading

"In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’ …The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.’ …‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’ Then the angel left her."

Devotional Thought:
Mary’s story reminds us that God often interrupts ordinary lives with extraordinary purpose. A young woman from a small town, engaged and preparing for marriage, suddenly receives a divine assignment that will change the course of history. The angel’s words were both beautiful and bewildering: “You will conceive and give birth to a son… the Son of the Most High.”

Mary had questions, but she didn’t resist. Her final words to Gabriel were, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” This is the heart of real faith. Faith doesn’t mean having all the answers; it means trusting the One who does.

As we move deeper into the Christmas season, Mary’s response challenges us to say “yes” to God even when His plans stretch our comfort zones. Her obedience brought Christ into the world, and our obedience allows His presence to shine through us today.

Practical Application
Say “yes” to God’s interruptions:
Sometimes divine opportunities come disguised as inconvenient moments. Be willing to pause and listen.

Trust beyond understanding:
When God’s plan seems unclear, remember that His favor often comes with faith, not full explanations.

Respond with surrender:
Like Mary, pray, “I am your servant, May your word to me be fulfilled.”

Carry Christ into your world:
Let your obedience, kindness, and faith reflect Jesus to those around you this Christmas.

Devotional Prayer

Father, I thank You for Mary’s example of humble obedience. When you call, help me answer with faith rather than fear. Teach me to trust Your timing, follow Your voice, and say “yes” to whatever You desire to do through me. Let my life carry the presence of Jesus into the world around me this season. In His name I pray, Amen.
