Psalms 1:1-2 NIV
"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night."
Reflection
Psalm 1 paints a clear picture of two types of lives: one rooted in God’s Word, thriving like a tree by streams of water, and the other unstable, like chaff blown away by the wind. The difference lies in what or who we're choosing to anchor ourselves to.
The world constantly pulls us to walk, stand, and sit with voices that may sound good but lead us off God’s path. But the blessed person filters their thoughts, decisions, and habits through the lens of Scripture. They’re not perfect, but they’re planted, consistent in seeking God.
When we root ourselves in God’s Word, the psalm says we become like a tree planted by streams of water, strong, steady, and fruitful. No matter the season, the tree remains nourished because it’s connected to a constant source.
You may go through dry or difficult seasons, but when you’re planted in God’s Word, you won’t wither. You’ll still produce fruit; in your character, in your relationships, in your influence. That’s God’s promise.
