Embracing Lordship: Experiencing God as Adonai
"But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth.’' -Genesis 15:2 NLT
In this scripture, we are introduced to a new name, Adonai. Adonai is the Sovereign Lord; He is the God who rules.
God promised Abram that He would be the Father of Many; however, at this point, Abram is still not even the Father of One. He appeals to God's Sovereignty, wondering what good are God's blessings when He doesn't even have a child.
Because God is Sovereign, that means He gets to make the decisions. Abram didn't understand God's plan. However, Abram remained committed to God's plan.
God does not require us to understand His plan; He requires us to obey It, even when it does not make sense.
Clarity comes as we continue to obey. Abram's name was eventually changed to Abraham, which means Father of Multitudes. Abraham continued to follow God, and He received what was promised.
Even when it doesn't make sense, or you're uncertain about God's plan, submit to His Sovereignty, Commit to Adonai, and you will experience everything God has promised.
