Empowered by the Holy Spirit Pt. 4

Devotional Reading: Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)

Devotional Reading

“Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Devotional Thought:
Paul draws a contrast in this verse. Do not be controlled by something that weakens you. Be filled with the Holy Spirit, who strengthens you. Anything that controls your mind, emotions, or choices more than God does will eventually lead you in the wrong direction. Paul is not just talking about alcohol. He is showing us a bigger principle about influence and control.

To be filled with the Holy Spirit means to live under His direction, His power, and His presence. It is not a one-time moment. It is a daily surrender. When the Holy Spirit fills us, He changes how we think, speak, respond, and live. He produces peace instead of chaos, wisdom instead of confusion, and self-control instead of impulse.

The question is simple: what is shaping you right now?

Practical Application
  • Ask God each morning to fill you fresh with the Holy Spirit.
  • Pay attention to what has been influencing your mood, choices, and focus.
  • Replace unhealthy habits with time in prayer, worship, and Scripture.
  • When stress rises, pause and invite the Holy Spirit to lead your response.

Devotional Prayer

Father, fill me fresh with Your Holy Spirit. I do not want to be controlled by my flesh, my emotions, or anything this world offers. Lead my thoughts, my words, and my choices. Help me live under Your influence every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
