Devotional Reading: Judges 14:1–2 (NLT)
Devotional Reading
"One day when Samson was in Timnah, one of the Philistine women caught his eye. When he returned home, he told his father and mother, “A young Philistine woman in Timnah caught my eye. I want to marry her. Get her for me.”
In Judges 14, we see one of the earliest red flags in Samson’s story. Samson saw a Philistine woman and immediately decided he wanted her. His parents raised concerns rooted in faith, wisdom, and obedience, but Samson dismissed them with one statement: “Get her for me. She looks good to me.”
This moment reveals a critical red flag: when desire overrides discernment.
Samson wasn’t lacking strength, gifting, or calling. What he lacked was the willingness to slow down and submit his desires to God’s wisdom. What looked good to him was not God's best, and that set the stage for future compromise.
Red flags often appear early, quietly, and through wise voices we choose to ignore.
Attraction alone is not confirmation that something is from God. Chemistry may spark interest, but it does not reveal integrity or spiritual maturity. And confidence can look like calling, yet true calling is proven by obedience, character, and alignment with God’s purpose..
Practical Application:
As part of the Red Flags series, ask yourself:

Practical Application:
As part of the Red Flags series, ask yourself:
- Am I making decisions based on what looks good or what is God-honoring?
- Have trusted voices raised concerns I’m brushing aside?
- Is this relationship drawing me closer to God or slowly pulling me away?
Devotional Prayer
Father in Jesus Name, I ask that You give me the humility to listen when You warn me. Help me recognize red flags before they become regrets, and lead me toward relationships that reflect Your wisdom and purpose. Amen.
