Devotional Reading: Matthew 21:8–9 (NIV)
Devotional Reading
“A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’”
Devotional Thought
Palm Sunday reminds us that Jesus entered Jerusalem as King, but not in the way people expected. The crowd wanted rescue, victory, and change. They waved palm branches and shouted praise because they believed Jesus was coming to fix their situation right away. What they did not understand was that He came first to deal with something deeper than outward struggle. He came to deal with sin, to bring peace with God, and to give lasting salvation.
Jesus did not arrive on a war horse. He came on a donkey. He came in humility, not pride. He came in peace, not force. He came with surrender to the Father’s will.
Palm Sunday calls us to examine our own hearts. Do we welcome Jesus only when He moves the way we want, or do we receive Him as the King He is?
It is easy to praise Jesus when expectations are high. It takes deeper faith to trust Him when His plan looks different than ours. Palm Sunday invites us to honor Jesus not just for what we hope He will do, but for who He is.

Practical Application
- Take time today to honor Jesus as King, not just Helper.
- Ask God to reveal any expectations you have placed on Him that need to be surrendered.
- Praise Him even in areas where the answer has not come yet.
- Walk in humility this week, remembering that the road to resurrection went through the cross.
Devotional Prayer
Father In Jesus Name, I thank you for your Son. Jesus, today I welcome You as King. Forgive me for the times I have wanted You to meet my expectations instead of trusting Your perfect plan. Help me honor You for who You are. Teach me to walk in humility, peace, and surrender. As I enter Holy Week, prepare my heart to follow You more closely and love You more deeply. Amen.
