Ordinary Disciples Pt. 2

Devotional Reading: John 15:7 (NLT)

Devotional Reading

“But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”John 15:7 is not a blank check for selfish desires. It is an invitation to deep connection with Jesus. Notice the order. First, remain in me. Second, my words remain in you. Then comes the promise about asking. When we stay close to Jesus and let His Word shape our hearts, our prayers begin to change. We stop asking from impulse. We start asking from alignment.
To remain in Christ means to stay connected to Him daily through prayer, obedience, and time in His Word. It is the picture of a branch staying connected to the vine. Life, strength, wisdom, and fruit all flow from that connection.
When His words live in us, they shape how we think, what we value, and what we desire. Then our prayers begin to reflect His heart. The power of this verse is not just that God answers prayer. It is that abiding changes the person who is praying.

Practical Application

  • Start your day with Scripture before you start your day with requests.
  • Stay consistent in your time with Jesus, even when you do not feel emotional or inspired.
  • Pray boldly, trusting that God responds to prayers that flow from a life connected to Him.

Devotional Prayer

Lord, help me remain in You and let Your Word remain in me. Shape my heart, my thoughts, and my desires so my prayers reflect Your will. Teach me to stay close to You every day and trust You fully when I pray. Amen.
