Devotional Reading: Mark 15:6–13 (NLT)
Devotional Reading
“Now it was the governor’s custom each year during the Passover celebration to release one prisoner to the crowd—anyone they wanted. One of the prisoners at that time was Barabbas, a revolutionary who had committed murder in an uprising… But at this point the leading priests stirred up the crowd to demand the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.” This passage gives us a powerful picture of the gospel. Barabbas was guilty. He deserved punishment. Jesus was innocent. He had done nothing wrong. Yet Barabbas was released, and Jesus was condemned. The guilty man went free because the sinless Savior took his place.
That is not just Barabbas’s story. That is our story. We are the ones who were guilty because of sin, and Jesus stepped in to take the punishment we deserved. He was rejected so we could be accepted. He was bound so we could be free. He took our place willingly.
Barabbas walked away alive because Jesus stayed. Every time we reflect on the cross, we should remember that grace is not just God overlooking sin. Grace is Jesus taking our place.
Practical Application
Live with gratitude, knowing your freedom was costly.
Stop carrying guilt that Jesus already paid for on the cross.
Extend grace to others, remembering how much grace you have received.
Let your obedience be a response to love, not an attempt to earn freedom.

Devotional Prayer
Jesus, thank You for taking my place. I was guilty, yet You gave me freedom through Your sacrifice. Help me never take that grace for granted. Teach me to live with humility, gratitude, and a heart that honors what You have done for me. Amen.
