Devotional Reading: Joshua 6:1–20 (NLT)
Obedience Before Breakthrough
Jericho was shut up tightly, but God had already told Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors.” The victory was promised before the walls ever fell.
Devotional Thoughts:
Joshua 6 reminds us that God’s instructions do not always make sense to us. Israel was told to march around Jericho for six days, then march seven times on the seventh day, blow the trumpets, and shout. From a military standpoint, that strategy probably looked unusual. But the breakthrough did not depend on human logic. It depended on obedience.
God had already promised the victory, but Israel still had to follow His instructions step by step. They had to keep marching when nothing appeared to be changing. They had to stay faithful through silence, repetition, and delay.
Sometimes we want visible progress before we keep obeying. Jericho teaches us that God can be working even when the wall still looks exactly the same.
The breakthrough came suddenly, but the obedience had been building for days.
Do not confuse a lack of visible movement with a lack of divine activity. Keep doing what God has told you to do. His timing may be different from yours, but His faithfulness has not changed.
Practical Application:

Practical Application:
- Keep obeying what God has already made clear, even when you do not see immediate results.
- Do not abandon the process just because it feels repetitive or slow.
- Resist the temptation to create your own shortcut when God has given specific direction.
- Ask yourself, “Where do I need to trust God’s instructions more than my own understanding?”
- Praise God before the wall falls, trusting that He is already at work.
Devotional Prayer
Father, help me trust You when Your process does not make sense to me. Give me patience to keep obeying when I cannot see progress and faith to believe You are working behind the scenes. Keep me from giving up too soon. Teach me to follow Your instructions fully and trust Your timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
