The Power of Forgiveness

Luke 23:34 NLT
"Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.' And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice."

Reflection

At one of the most painful moments of His life, as He hung on the cross, Jesus demonstrated the ultimate act of forgiveness. He didn’t wait for an apology. He didn’t demand justice. Instead, He interceded for those who were crucifying Him, showing us an example of what it means to love.

How often do we hold on to hurt, waiting for an apology that may never come? We replay offenses in our minds, justifying our bitterness and pain. Yet, Jesus calls us to something higher. His example on the cross challenges us to release others from the debt we feel they owe us just as He released those who nailed Him to the cross. Do yourself a favor and forgive.

Practical Application

Identify Who Needs Your Forgiveness
Is there someone in your life who has hurt you? Maybe it’s a friend who betrayed you, a coworker who wronged you, or a family member who disappointed you. Write their name down and commit to praying for them this week.

Pray for a Heart Like Christ’s
Ask God to help you see the person through His eyes. Pray for the strength to forgive, even if your emotions don’t align. Forgiveness is often a process, not a one-time event.
