"And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated, His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "

Reflection
In the opening of His famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus begins with a profound declaration of blessing that challenges our natural understanding of happiness and success. Jesus doesn't start by exalting the rich, the powerful, or the famous. Instead, He pronounces a blessing upon the "poor in spirit."
What does it mean to be "poor in spirit"? To be poor in spirit is to have a mindset of humility and complete dependency upon God. It means acknowledging our need for His direction, strength, and defense in every aspect of our lives. In a world that celebrates self-sufficiency and personal strength, Jesus elevates the virtue of humility.

Practical Application
Humility in Prayer:
Take time today to approach God with a humble heart. Acknowledge your weaknesses and limitations before Him, and ask for His strength to sustain you. Remember, you walk in the strength of the LORD.
Servant Attitude:
Look for opportunities to serve others without seeking recognition or reward.
Embrace Teachability:
Develop a spirit of learning and growth. Be open to correction and instruction from others, recognizing that none of us have all the answers, but God grants wisdom to the humble (James 1:5). He grants wisdom to the poor in spirit.
Practice Gratitude:
Develop an attitude of gratitude, thanking God for His blessings and acknowledging that every good gift comes from Him (James 1:17).
