The Names of God Series: Jehovah-Jireh and Our Faith Journey
"And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, "In the Mount of the Lord, it shall be provided."
- Genesis 22:14 NKJV
This scripture introduces us to a new name, Jehovah Jireh. Jehovah Jireh means the Lord will provide. Another definition is the Lord who sees ahead and makes provision.
In Genesis 22, Abraham is given a test by God. Abraham is instructed to take his son Isaac and offer him a burnt sacrifice. Abraham immediately obeyed God and began the three-day journey to the place the Lord had directed.
As Abraham prepares to offer Isaac, the Angel of the Lord calls out to Abraham and tells him not to do anything to Isaac because now the LORD knows that Abraham fears God.
When Abraham lifted his eyes, he saw a ram caught in the bush. Then, Abraham called the place "The Lord will provide."
Abraham's obedience allowed him to experience God as Jehovah Jireh. The provision we believe God for is on the other side of our obedience.
Like Abraham, let us obey God fully and experience the fullness of God in our lives.
