When he returned home, he told his father and mother, “A young Philistine woman in Timnah caught my eye. I want to marry her. Get her for me.”

In Judges 14, we see one of the earliest red flags in Samson’s story. Samson saw a Philistine woman and immediately decided he wanted her. His parents raised concerns rooted in faith, wisdom, and obedience, but Samson dismissed them with one statement: “Get her for me. She looks good to me.”

This moment reveals a critical red flag: when desire overrides discernment.
Samson wasn’t lacking strength, gifting, or calling. What he lacked was the willingness to slow down and submit his desires to God’s wisdom. What looked good to him was not God's best, and that set the stage for future compromise.

Red flags often appear early, quietly, and through wise voices we choose to ignore.
Attraction alone is not confirmation that something is from God. Chemistry may spark interest, but it does not reveal integrity or spiritual maturity. And confidence can look like calling, yet true calling is proven by obedience, character, and alignment with God’s purpose..

Practical Application:
As part of the Red Flags series, ask yourself:

Am I making decisions based on what looks good or what is God-honoring?

Have trusted voices raised concerns I’m brushing aside?

Is this relationship drawing me closer to God or slowly pulling me away?

Red flags are not meant to limit us; they are meant to protect us. Paying attention early can save us from pain later.

Devotional Prayer

Father in Jesus Name, I ask that You give me the humility to listen when You warn me. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."

Many of us approach prayer with hope, but not always with confidence. We wonder whether God hears us, whether our prayers matter, or whether we’re asking the “right” way. John reminds us that confidence in prayer doesn’t come from our words or our worthiness; it comes from alignment with God’s will.

When we pray according to God’s will, we can be sure that He hears us. And if He hears us, we can trust that He is already at work. This doesn’t mean every prayer is answered exactly as we expect or when we expect. It means God responds in a way that is best, wise, and rooted in His love for us.

Prayer is not about controlling outcomes; it’s about trusting the One who controls everything. Confidence grows when we stop trying to convince God and start agreeing with Him.

Practical Application:
Align before you ask:
Spend time listening in prayer and Scripture so your requests reflect God’s heart.

Pray with assurance:
When you pray according to His will, let go of doubt and trust that God hears you.

Rest in His response:
Trust God’s answer, even if it looks different from what was expected.

Keep praying:
Confidence grows through consistency, not perfection.

Devotional Prayer

Father, thank You that I can come to You with confidence. Daniel 1:8 tells us that Daniel resolved. To resolve means he settled the matter in his heart before temptation ever pressed him. His strength didn’t come from willpower in the moment; it came from conviction decided in advance.

Daniel was in a foreign land, under pressure to blend in, succeed, and comply. The king’s food represented comfort, status, acceptance, and compromise. Daniel understood something critical: spiritual power is preserved through spiritual discipline. By choosing restraint, he positioned himself for clarity, favor, and influence.

Fasting works the same way. It is not about deprivation; it’s about dedication. It is a deliberate choice to say, “God, You matter more than my appetite, my comfort, and my routines.”

Today, as we begin this fast, know that God is not asking for perfection; He’s asking for resolve. The fast begins when you decide, I will honor God with my body, my focus, and my obedience.

Daniel didn’t protest loudly or rebel disrespectfully. He made a firm decision and followed it with wisdom and humility. When we fast with a resolved heart, not reluctantly, not emotionally, but intentionally, we create space for God to work deeply within us.

Practical Application:
Resolve before resistance:
Decide now what this fast means for you and what you are committing to God, spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Fast with purpose:
Don’t just remove food or distractions; replace them with prayer, Scripture, and listening.

Honor God privately:
This fast is not for visibility; it’s for transformation. What happens in secret shapes what God does openly.

Devotional Prayer

Father, today I resolve in my heart to honor You. But if I did, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that describe what must happen now?”
In this moment, Jesus shows us that real strength is not proving you can fight back. It is choosing obedience when you have the power to defend yourself. Jesus was not helpless. He had access to heaven’s armies, yet He surrendered to the Father’s plan. That is what makes this passage so powerful. Jesus chose purpose over personal escape.
Many of us want God to remove hard situations immediately, but sometimes his will is no escape. One of the prisoners at that time was Barabbas, a revolutionary who had committed murder in an uprising… But at this point the leading priests stirred up the crowd to demand the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.” This passage gives us a powerful picture of the gospel. Barabbas was guilty. He deserved punishment. Jesus was innocent. He had done nothing wrong. Yet Barabbas was released, and Jesus was condemned. The guilty man went free because the sinless Savior took his place.
That is not just Barabbas’s story. That is our story. We are the ones who were guilty because of sin, and Jesus stepped in to take the punishment we deserved. He was rejected so we could be accepted. He was bound so we could be free. He took our place willingly.
Barabbas walked away alive because Jesus stayed. Every time we reflect on the cross, we should remember that grace is not just God overlooking sin. When we stay close to Jesus and let His Word shape our hearts, our prayers begin to change. We stop asking from impulse. The difference lies in what or who we're choosing to anchor ourselves to.

The world constantly pulls us to walk, stand, and sit with voices that may sound good but lead us off God’s path. But the blessed person filters their thoughts, decisions, and habits through the lens of Scripture.
