When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’”

Devotional Thought:
Jesus did not just see crowds. He saw people. He saw their pain, their confusion, and their need, and His response was compassion. He was moved, not annoyed. He was present, not distant. Then He told His disciples that the harvest was plentiful, but the laborers were few.

These verses reminds us that ministry begins with how we see people. If we only see interruptions, problems, or numbers, we will miss the heart of Jesus. But when we ask God to let us see people through His eyes, compassion grows and obedience follows. Jesus calls us not only to pray for the harvest, but to be willing to serve in it.

Practical Application

Ask God to help you see people with compassion instead of judgment or indifference.

Pray daily for God to send workers into the harvest.

Be available for God to use you in simple ways through encouragement, service, and sharing the gospel.

Pay attention to the needs around you instead of rushing past them.

Devotional Prayer

Father, give me Your heart for people. He promised power through the Holy Spirit. That power was not given for status or attention. It was given so they could be effective witnesses for Christ.

The same is true for us today. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live boldly, speak truthfully, love consistently, and reflect Jesus. Witnessing is not just about standing behind a pulpit or having all the right words. It is about living a life that points people to Jesus at home, at work, in church, and in everyday conversations.

God will never asks us to fulfill His mission on our own. He gives us His Spirit so we can walk in courage, wisdom, and power. We are not called to be impressive. Be filled with the Holy Spirit, who strengthens you. Anything that controls your mind, emotions, or choices more than God does will eventually lead you in the wrong direction. Paul is not just talking about alcohol. He is showing us a bigger principle about influence and control.

To be filled with the Holy Spirit means to live under His direction, His power, and His presence. It is not a one-time moment. It is a daily surrender. When the Holy Spirit fills us, He changes how we think, speak, respond, and live. He produces peace instead of chaos, wisdom instead of confusion, and self-control instead of impulse.

The question is simple: what is shaping you right now?

Practical Application

Ask God each morning to fill you fresh with the Holy Spirit.

Pay attention to what has been influencing your mood, choices, and focus.

Replace unhealthy habits with time in prayer, worship, and Scripture.

When stress rises, pause and invite the Holy Spirit to lead your response.

Devotional Prayer

Father, fill me fresh with Your Holy Spirit. That must have sounded confusing in the moment. How could losing His physical presence be better? Because Jesus was making room for the Holy Spirit to come; not just to walk beside them, but to live within them.

The Amplified Bible gives us a fuller picture of who the Holy Spirit is. He is our Comforter when life feels heavy. He brings peace to hearts that are tired, anxious, or grieving.

He is our Advocate when we feel weak, accused, or unsure. If you follow someone who lacks direction, you will end up where they are. Who you follow shapes where you go.
This is not just about leaders. It is about influence. The voices you listen to, the people you admire, and the patterns you repeat are all forming you. Jesus makes it clear that we eventually become like what we follow.
The goal is not just information, it is transformation. Jesus calls us to follow Him so closely that our lives begin to reflect His character. If we are not intentional, we will drift into becoming like the culture around us. But if we stay close to Jesus, we will grow to think, respond, and live like Him.

Practical Application

Evaluate your influences. One of the prisoners at that time was Barabbas, a revolutionary who had committed murder in an uprising… But at this point the leading priests stirred up the crowd to demand the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.” This passage gives us a powerful picture of the gospel. Barabbas was guilty. He deserved punishment. Jesus was innocent. He had done nothing wrong. Yet Barabbas was released, and Jesus was condemned. The guilty man went free because the sinless Savior took his place.
That is not just Barabbas’s story. That is our story. We are the ones who were guilty because of sin, and Jesus stepped in to take the punishment we deserved. He was rejected so we could be accepted. He was bound so we could be free. He took our place willingly.
Barabbas walked away alive because Jesus stayed. Every time we reflect on the cross, we should remember that grace is not just God overlooking sin. Grace is Jesus taking our place.

Practical Application
Live with gratitude, knowing your freedom was costly.
Stop carrying guilt that Jesus already paid for on the cross.
Extend grace to others, remembering how much grace you have received.
Let your obedience be a response to love, not an attempt to earn freedom.

Devotional Prayer

Jesus, thank You for taking my place. It is choosing obedience when you have the power to defend yourself. Jesus was not helpless. He had access to heaven’s armies, yet He surrendered to the Father’s plan. This was a deliberate statement of humility and peace. The crowds expected a conquering military leader to overthrow Rome, but Jesus came to conquer something far more oppressive: sin itself. Their expectation bias blinded them to the true nature of their King. How often do we approach Jesus with our own agenda, wanting Him to fix our external circumstances while resisting the internal transformation He offers? Today, examine your expectations of Jesus. Are you celebrating Him for what you hope He'll do, or are you committed to Him for who He is? The humble King didn't come to meet our expectations, He came to exceed them by addressing our deepest need: redemption from sin.

Devotional Prayer

Father in Jesus Name, I thank you for sending Your Son to the cross. Today, recognize that feeling angry doesn't make you ungodly, but staying angry and acting rashly does. God has equipped you with the Holy Spirit to regulate your emotions. The cross wasn't just about death; it was about public surrender, a visible sign that you now belong to someone else. True discipleship cannot coexist with selfishness. When we promote ourselves, we cannot simultaneously follow Christ. The Apostle Paul reminds us to abandon self-promotion and possess genuine humility, viewing others as more important than ourselves. This isn't about low self-esteem but proper alignment; God at the center, not us. Surrender means wherever Jesus leads, we follow, even when the path doesn't match our preferences. When he returned home, he told his father and mother, “A young Philistine woman in Timnah caught my eye. I want to marry her. Get her for me.”

In Judges 14, we see one of the earliest red flags in Samson’s story. Samson saw a Philistine woman and immediately decided he wanted her. His parents raised concerns rooted in faith, wisdom, and obedience, but Samson dismissed them with one statement: “Get her for me. She looks good to me.”

This moment reveals a critical red flag: when desire overrides discernment.
Samson wasn’t lacking strength, gifting, or calling. What he lacked was the willingness to slow down and submit his desires to God’s wisdom. What looked good to him was not God's best, and that set the stage for future compromise.

Red flags often appear early, quietly, and through wise voices we choose to ignore.
Attraction alone is not confirmation that something is from God. Chemistry may spark interest, but it does not reveal integrity or spiritual maturity. And confidence can look like calling, yet true calling is proven by obedience, character, and alignment with God’s purpose..

Practical Application:
As part of the Red Flags series, ask yourself:

Am I making decisions based on what looks good or what is God-honoring?

Have trusted voices raised concerns I’m brushing aside?

Is this relationship drawing me closer to God or slowly pulling me away?

Red flags are not meant to limit us; they are meant to protect us. Paying attention early can save us from pain later.

Devotional Prayer

Father in Jesus Name, I ask that You give me the humility to listen when You warn me. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."

Many of us approach prayer with hope, but not always with confidence. We wonder whether God hears us, whether our prayers matter, or whether we’re asking the “right” way. John reminds us that confidence in prayer doesn’t come from our words or our worthiness; it comes from alignment with God’s will.

When we pray according to God’s will, we can be sure that He hears us. And if He hears us, we can trust that He is already at work. This doesn’t mean every prayer is answered exactly as we expect or when we expect. It means God responds in a way that is best, wise, and rooted in His love for us.

Prayer is not about controlling outcomes; it’s about trusting the One who controls everything. Confidence grows when we stop trying to convince God and start agreeing with Him.

Practical Application:
Align before you ask:
Spend time listening in prayer and Scripture so your requests reflect God’s heart.

Pray with assurance:
When you pray according to His will, let go of doubt and trust that God hears you.

Rest in His response:
Trust God’s answer, even if it looks different from what was expected.

Keep praying:
Confidence grows through consistency, not perfection.

Devotional Prayer

Father, thank You that I can come to You with confidence. "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

Surrender is the hardest part of prayer. We want to tell God our plans and ask Him to bless them. But Jesus teaches us to pray, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done." This is about alignment, not achievement. Even Jesus, facing the cross, prayed, "Not My will, but Yours be done."

We want to tell God our plans and ask Him to bless them. But Jesus teaches us to pray, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done." This is about alignment, not achievement. Even Jesus, facing the cross, prayed, "Not My will, but Yours be done." True prayer isn't getting God to do what you want; it's positioning yourself to want what God wants. His will is always better than yours, even when you can't see it.

This week, release control of that situation you've been gripping tightly. Stop treating prayer like a wish list and start treating it like a surrender flag. Daniel 1:8 tells us that Daniel resolved. To resolve means he settled the matter in his heart before temptation ever pressed him. His strength didn’t come from willpower in the moment; it came from conviction decided in advance.

Daniel was in a foreign land, under pressure to blend in, succeed, and comply. The king’s food represented comfort, status, acceptance, and compromise. Daniel understood something critical: spiritual power is preserved through spiritual discipline. By choosing restraint, he positioned himself for clarity, favor, and influence.

Fasting works the same way. It is not about deprivation; it’s about dedication. It is a deliberate choice to say, “God, You matter more than my appetite, my comfort, and my routines.”

Today, as we begin this fast, know that God is not asking for perfection; He’s asking for resolve. The fast begins when you decide, I will honor God with my body, my focus, and my obedience.

Daniel didn’t protest loudly or rebel disrespectfully. He made a firm decision and followed it with wisdom and humility. When we fast with a resolved heart, not reluctantly, not emotionally, but intentionally, we create space for God to work deeply within us.

Practical Application:
Resolve before resistance:
Decide now what this fast means for you and what you are committing to God, spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Fast with purpose:
Don’t just remove food or distractions; replace them with prayer, Scripture, and listening.

Honor God privately:
This fast is not for visibility; it’s for transformation. What happens in secret shapes what God does openly.

Devotional Prayer

Father, today I resolve in my heart to honor You.
